A New School, A New Friend, and a Whole New World
Published on by Kevin Rahmad ShaputraToday was my first day of elementary school, and I was both excited and nervous. Walking into a new classroom, wearing my neatly ironed uniform, and carrying my backpack filled with fresh notebooks felt like stepping into an unfamiliar world. Even though some of my friends from kindergarten were here, something about today felt different—like a brand-new chapter of my life was beginning.
But the best part of the day? I made a new friend.
He wasn’t someone I had known before, not a friend from kindergarten, not a neighbor I had played with before. He was completely new to me. We sat next to each other in class, and after a few nervous glances, we started talking. I don’t even remember what we talked about first, but before I knew it, we were laughing like we had known each other for years.
When school ended, I invited him to my house. I wanted to show him something special—my computer. I was proud of it. It wasn’t like the ones at school, this one was mine. We played Solitaire together, taking turns, watching the cards disappear one by one. It wasn’t a multiplayer game, but somehow, playing together made it more fun.
Then, something unexpected happened.
He invited me to come with him and his friends from the neighborhood. I hesitated for a moment. Even though we lived just a few houses apart, I had never really played with the kids around my home. I usually stayed inside, playing with my toys or on my computer. But today, something inside me said, why not?
And so, I went.
For the first time, I ran through the small paths between houses, laughed with kids I had never spoken to before, and played games I had never tried. It felt strange at first, but then it felt… amazing. Like I had just unlocked a new part of the world that had always been there, waiting for me to explore.
Today wasn’t just my first day of school. It was the first day I truly stepped out of my comfort zone. And I think I liked it.
