The Great Antarctica Mystery: A Question of Our Reality

Since childhood, my curiosity has been boundless. One of my earliest gifts was an atlas, a book filled with maps of the world. But something always puzzled me—why does Antarctica appear so massive in every map? In flat map projections, Antarctica seems to wrap around the entire world, appearing larger than any other landmass. This sparked an even bigger question in my mind: Is the Earth really round, or have we been misled?

The Unnatural Size of Antarctica on Maps

One of the most glaring inconsistencies in maps is the depiction of Antarctica. It always appears disproportionately large, no matter the projection. The official explanation is that this is due to distortions in the Mercator projection, but why is it that Antarctica always remains dominant in flat maps? Could it be that it truly is larger than we have been led to believe?
